I'm going to start reviewing the all-new Netflix-only series House of Cards1 soon. Though this isn't Netflix's first foray into original programming (Bruce Springsteen's2 guitarist and E Street Band Member Steven Van Zandt's Lilyhammer is going in to its second season - Little Steven will be away from the E Street Band while they are in Australia in order to be able to film this second season) though I have yet to watch it.
I heard rave reviews for Boss starring Kelsey Grammer on Showtime. It only lasted two seasons, and I never saw a single episode of it. I am excited for the prospect of a decent political thriller that is well acted, and told in the long-form style, like Homeland. Unfortunately, while I do enjoy Scandal there is a bit too much of the network TV feel to it at times. It is, after all, a Shonda Rimes3 show. I enjoy it, but I can do other things while it's on. I'm hoping that House of Cards is a show that focuses on one or two major problems, a few side storylines, and some good character building. Kevin Spacey is a great actor who can be both charming and warm (American Beauty), and unsettlingly ruthless (Se7en) - he could put both of those aspects on display in this role.
Here are the teaser

1 - I am excited that it's called House of Cards because my friend Erik, for a period of about six days in 2006, kept saying "deck of cards" when he really meant "house of cards." Chance I don't refer to this series as "Deck of Cards" with him? Zero.2 - One day, I will have a post that doesn't include an explicit reference to Bruce. Not all things tie back to Bruce Springsteen for me. Most things, but not all.
3 - Creator of Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and Off the Map.
